Young Mediators' Network
The Young Mediators’ Network links up volunteers aged 13-21 years who are working in peer mediation and peer support projects around the country. It runs conferences, regional training days, free mediation workshops and training in leadership and evaluation techniques.
The network is youth-led, overseen by a steering group of young
people nominated by the young mediators, while Leap acts as
co-ordinator and facilitator.
The YMN is the only national resource where young peer mediators can get their own support, share ideas and skills and learn from each other. Young people’s involvement helps them to raise the profile of peer mediation and to improve the chances that they offer to other young people.
The YMN is actively researching where peer mediation projects are occurring nationally, and so would like to hear from any projects which might like to get involved.
The network was short-listed for a Philip Lawrence Award in 2000, and in 2001 was a finalist in the Whitbread Young Partners’ Award.
